Couples only, friendship only. As the internet expands more and more people are searching online for friends. As a couple many people need to be certain that any website they join is a genuine 'friendship only' community so they don't risk being involved in anything they would find distasteful.
We have found www.4friendshiponly.com which is most definitely 'friendship only'. How do they do that? We asked the owner;
"It's a fact that with modern life many couples find they either don't have the time to meet other couples or simply end up moving away from long term friendships. That's the sort of friendship where you as a couple can truly relax and we really miss that interaction.
When we relocated with work we found ourselves in just that position. Could we really expect our 'old' friends, with their busy lives, to travel hours on a regular basis? Clearly we wanted to keep in touch but the answer was more local friends. So where to start?
We struggled with this. Frankly we didn't trust the internet, too many horror stories for our liking and we most definitely wanted 'friendship only for couples'. So we started our own website www.4friendshiponly.com (and .co.uk). The intention was to make it relatively easy to join, no long tedious forms, but well regulated so that when your membership was enabled you could be sure of what would greet you. We check every single new members profile, it doesn't take long, but it has kept out probably 50% of those who try to join.
We actually delete non suitable profiles, we believe the membership should be 'what you see is what you get' and not an artificially inflated membership where there are dozens of 'non-available' members. Having said that we do now have 1000 couples, we believe all genuine, all looking for other couples for friendship only.
One last point. With profiles we go even further. If an existing member edits their profile or adds images thay are automatically 'on hold' to be checked again. These new profiles are not available to other members until re-examined.

Singles only, friendship only. We are carrying on the theme of friendship only websites by looking at www.4m8sonly.co.uk. This site is a little unusual in that they don't claim to be international, in fact they only have members from the UK. How can that work? We asked the owner Eddie:
"For Mates Only was formed because we felt a need for a friendship only website for singles. Frankly there really is no shortage of dating sites, the web must have thousands. But not everyone, not all of the time, is searching for dates. What if you just want to go shopping, down the pub, or a day out with a friend?
To this end we welcome members seeking friendship only and you can register as looking for male friends, female friends, or don't mind. We also give people the opportunity to mention their sexuality, straight, gay, or 'no comment' because its your business, it just helps others to narrow down their search.
There's always a temptation to slip into dating, believe me we have lots of profiles which, despite the clear explanation of the site, still sign up looking for more than friendship. Like I say, there are lots of dating sites but with us you find members looking for friendship. What comes after is their business but at least you know what you are joining.
We delete non suitable profiles quickly before they are available on the site. We are rightly proud of a safe, hassle free friendship site and we keep it that way.
You asked about 'UK only' membership? Seriously now, you fancy a pint, a game of pool, days out with other single mums etc etc. What use is a friend who lives 3000 miles away? International may make the site seem bigger, but we don't think for our community it makes it better.

So you want to look for friends or dates in an environment where you won't get hassled or confronted with things you really don't want to see.
